AGE OF AQUARIUS
ã 2000
by Lance Carlyle Carter
Age of Aquarius: PREVIEW
In this presentation about the Age of Aquarius we will start with the facts and then go
to the speculation.
Official status of the Age of Aquarius:
- No astronomical organization or official body has agreed upon a specific date to begin
the Aquarian Age.
- No world body has recognized the spring equinox of the year 2000 AD as the start of the
Age of Aquarius.
- No Congress has convened, no consensus taken and no agreements have been made on how to
administer the Age of Aquarius.
- Most people are taking a wait and see attitude as if the new age were a Wheel of
Fortune.
Definition of the Age of Aquarius:
- The Age of Aquarius is one of the twelve great ages that are determined by the location
of the vernal equinoctial point. The age is named after the 30° zodiacal sign that the
vernal equinoctial point is located in.
- The equinoctial point is the position of the sun on the spring equinox.
- Day and night are of equal length on the both the spring equinox and the autumn equinox.
- The autumn equinox sign is not used to determine the age name: Precession of the
Equinox. Singular.
- The sun on the ECLIPTIC crosses over the equator on the spring equinox.
- The sun orbits the core (center) of the galaxy once every 220 million years; for all
practical purposes, the galaxy core is stationary.
- Because of the motion of the Earth through the solar system, the ecliptic is not a
perfect circle because the Earth will sway this way and that due to the gravitational
attractions of the planets in a three dimensional model. The ecliptic is actually the
average position of the sun as seen from our vantagepoint on earth. Remember that it is
the earth's motion around the sun that causes the sun to traverse the path of the
ecliptic. From the viewpoint of the sun, it is the Earth and the other planets of the
solar system, which are revolving around it. Our vantage point here on Earth causes
optical illusions such as the retrograde motion of the planets in the zodiac.
-
- There are four or five stars on the Ecliptic that might serve as a starting point if a
star were used as border markers between ages. Remember that the star would not be able to
be seen if it is conjoined with the equinoctial point, which is the location of the sun at
the vernal equinox. All anyone looking there would see is the sun and the stars behind the
sun would be faded out. It might not be possible to use a particular star as a boundary
marker of the great ages because the stars themselves move in their "proper
motions."
- Regulus of Leo, Wasat of Gemini, Asellus Australis of Cancer, Zubenelgenubi of Libra.
Regulus is mentioned more often.
- The equinoctial point will be slightly past 90 degrees from the galactic equator on the
spring equinox 2000.
- It is commonly accepted that the Aquarian Age is a period of time that is approximately
2160 years in length. (Even NASA rounds a great year off to 26,000 years)
- An Age is one twelfth of a 25,800-year astronomical cycle determined by the precession
of the equinox. (2160 years = 1/12 of 25,800 years)
- The exact length of time for the full cycle of the precession of the equinox is
difficult to determine.
- The precession is determined by the wobble of the earth which is caused by many factors:
- The gravitational effects on the Earths equatorial bulge causes the wobble
- The wobble causes the Earths axis to rotate in a slow clockwise motion
- The Earth's axis is inclined at 23.5 degrees to the plane of the ecliptic, giving rise
to the seasons.
- The rotational motion of the Earth's axis is likened to the motion of a spinning top.
- The revolution of the moon around the earth and its varying distances from the earth.
- The revolution of the earth around the sun and its varying distances from the sun has an
effect on the wobble and the ice ages.
- The gravitational effects of the planets affect the wobble.
- The changes in locations of mass on the earth due to crust shift.
-
- The melting of glaciers or icecaps and atmospheric phenomena have an effect on the
precession of the equinox because the wobble is caused by the amount of mass at the bulge
near the equator. When ice caps melt, their mass is redistributed into the oceans and the
bulge of water at the equator is added to. When scientists compare the dates for the ice
ages to the orbital data of the planets for the past thirty thousand years, then they can
work out the exact amount of wobble on any particular year. Until all those precise
calculations and measurements are done we cannot expect the scientific community to
endorse any particular date as the beginning of the Age of Aquarius.
- The Gulf Stream and sea currents may affect the earth's wobble.
- Some believe that the astronomical ages aren't of equal length and are actually
determined by the arbitrary size of the constellations. The ancient ages were definitely
based on a 30° sign.
- Using modern star maps, the Aquarian Age wouldn't be scheduled to begin for 600 years.
(2600 AD)
- Using historical star maps will give varying dates depending on where the lines are
drawn.
- Some ancient star maps don't separate constellations with lines, but connect them with
lines or pictures that convey a figure such as Orion the Hunter or Pegasus the Swan.
Ancient star maps from the time of Hipparchus are in close agreement with the modern
constellations.
- Anybody can draw lines between constellations, but who would agree to use those new
constellations? Many artists through history have painted the heavens with their own
brushes.
- If enough people agree, the Aquarian Age can begin whenever they wish it to begin.
- Some believe that the astronomical ages aren't based on any particular star map
- The astronomical ages may be based on the intersections of celestial planes of
reference:
- The ECLIPTIC is the path of the sun. The ECLIPTIC is a great circle on the celestial
sphere of 360 degrees.
- The ECLIPTIC is the center of band of constellations called the ZODIAC.
- The zodiac ring consists of 12 zodiacal constellations.
- The constellation Ophiuchus also crosses the ECLIPTIC.
- The ZODIAC encompasses a band of constellations which the sun, moon and planets travel
on. The ZODIAC stretches out about 20 degrees on either side of the ECLIPTIC. The width of
the zodiac is usually defined by the extreme positions of planets in celestial latitude.
Neptune and Pluto currently define the extents of the zodiac, but other bodies might
conceivably define the extents of the zodiac if they are classified as planets.
- CELESTIAL LATITUDE is measured in degrees north and south of the celestial equator. The
celestial equator is the projection of the earth's equator onto the celestial sphere.
- The sun appears to move counterclockwise along the ecliptic because of the revolution of
the earth around the sun. The moon also appears to move counterclockwise through the
zodiac because of its rotation around the earth.
- The planets generally appear to move counterclockwise around the zodiac except during
times of the year when they appear to move clockwise. This phenomena is called retrograde
motion and is based on the relationship between the earth's position in relation to the
sun and the other planet's positions in relation to the earth and the sun.
- CELESTIAL LONGITUDE is measured in 360 degrees on the celestial equator.
- The CELESTIAL EQUATOR is a great circle on the celestial sphere in the same plane of the
earth's equator. The CELESTIAL EQUATOR is a projection of the earth's equator onto the
sky. The CELESTIAL EQUATOR changes its position in relation to the direction that the
earth's axis is pointing. It is the relationship between the CELESTIAL EQUATOR and the
ECLIPTIC that defines the precession of the equinoctial point.
- The tilt of the earth's axis in relation to the plane of the ecliptic is the same angle
between the celestial equator and ecliptic: 23.5 degrees.
- The GALACTIC EQUATOR is a great circle on the celestial sphere passing down the middle
of the Milky Way as seen from earth and through the center of the MILKY WAY galaxy.
- Orbis Lacteus (milky circle) is the name Cicero (102-49 BCE) used for the circle of
stars we call the Milky Way.
- The equinoctial point is now located in the constellation Pisces but has recently moved
into the sign of Aquarius.
- The sun conjoins the vernal equinoctial point on the spring equinox of each year.
- The sun obscures the stars of Pisces and Aquarius on the spring equinox because those
constellations are located behind or too near the sun at that time of year.
Theories about the SIGNS of the ZODIAC and the Great Ages:
- Thousands of years ago the signs of the zodiac corresponded closely to the
constellations of the zodiac, but the precession of the equinoxes has separated them over
the past two thousand years.
- The divisions of the sky into segments that define the Great Ages may be currently based
on what we refer to now as the signs of the zodiac and not the constellations of the
zodiac. This theory is based on a coincidence that occurs at the beginning of any Great
Age. The beginning point of the signs of the zodiac on the spring equinox of the year 2000
AD coincide with a logical division of the sky into equal segments that can be used to
define the Great Ages because of the alignment with the equinoctial point with the
galactic equator. Note that the ecliptic is a great circle as is the celestial equator. It
would be logical to use the galactic equator as the third reference system in determining
the borders of the great ages since it is also a great circle of great importance.
- The Signs of the Zodiac are 30-degree segments along the Zodiac, and start with the
position of the equinoctial point for any given year. The constellations of the zodiac
don't coincide with the signs of the zodiac at this time in history because the precession
of the equinox has precessed the signs back 30 degrees.
- The term "Signs of the Zodiac" may come from "Orbis Signifer"
(sign-bearing circle) from the time of Cicero from which we begin to have a great deal of
literature.
- Each one of the twelve 30 degree segments of the zodiacal circle is called a sign.
- If we know the beginning of one sign of the zodiac, we know where the rest begin and
end.
- The position of the equinoctial point at the start of an age determines when it will
end.
- George Flory points out that postulating additional points as the starting point of an
age is redundant and could conflict with the first definition. Having many different ideas
about when a particular age actually begins makes it difficult to determine when another
one ends.
- The problem comes from that fact that the "great year" occurs over such a
great time span that observing it is difficult and preserving those observations over many
millenniums is near impossible. The best we can do today is measure the precessional
motion with the best instruments available and then make calculations predicting the
equinoctial point locations at particular times in the past. The calculations can provide
the following information:
- Where is the equinoctial point at a particular time, such as the spring equinox of 2000
AD? Each year in history could be plotted in a table. Better observations must first be
made before accurate calculations of the previous positions can be made. It will take a
supercomputer to come up with a very accurate table of positions. Astronomy applications
like RedShift claim to be able to predict past and future astronomical events within a few
hours over two thousand years.
- When will the equinoctial point be at a particular location, such as zero point
Aquarius? That certainly depends on what you define as zero point Aquarius.
- Considering that in astronomical terms, the zero point Aries changes every year because
of the Precession of the Equinox. But also remember that the zero point Aries used by
astronomers and navigators are NOT related to the actual constellation Aries. The
constellations of the zodiac are drawn in an irregular manner and the zodiac itself
crosses the constellation Ophiuchus, which is NOT one of the traditional 12 constellations
of the zodiac. Where the borderlines are drawn between the zodiacal constellations is not
relevant to this discussion yet. What is important is that the ecliptic, which is also the
path of the equinoctial point, is a great circle, and can be divided into 360 degrees. If
12 positions on the great circle of the ecliptic could be designated as division points
between the ages, then this discussion might find a resolution.
- Zodiacal Signs, Traditional Zodiacal and Modern Zodiacal Constellations:
- Zodiacal Signs are based on their relationship to the Zero Point Aries that is based on
the position of the equinoctial point on the spring equinox of any given year. The
360-degree ecliptic circle is divided into 12 segments, each of which is a sign of the
zodiac: Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn,
Aquarius and Pisces.
- Traditional Zodiacal Constellations are based on the traditional zodiacal constellations
as pictured from the Greek and Roman star maps. Other Traditional Zodiacal Constellations
include the Chinese, Mayan and Hebrew forms to name a few.
- Modern Zodiacal Constellations are based on star maps approved by the IAU International
Astronomers Union. Eugene Deleporte drew these modern constellational boundaries. The main
argument modern astronomers have with the timing of the Aquarian Age is that they expect
the new age to begin when they say it should according to their freshly printed star
charts while dismissing the traditional zodiacal signs as being archaic. Maybe they could
consider that the great ages are an archaic astronomical system, and ancient astronomical
tools should be used to determine the timing of the great ages.
Archaic Astronomy: The motions of the Sun, Moon and Planets were celestial clocks
- When ancient astronomers calculated the timing of celestial events, they had to use the
best instruments they could make. Some of the measurements were wrong, so it probably took
centuries of trial and error to get the alignments of the instruments correct. Considering
that the ancients used monuments such as Stonehenge, the Great Pyramid and the Mayan
Temples for astronomical observations, the tools they used were of a grand scale and were
capable of measuring great spans of time such as the great ages. At least they could point
to a location in the heavens at a particular time in history, giving significance to that
point and their monument.
Is the Age of Aquarius a modern concept or an ancient concept?
- The concept of the great ages is an ancient concept. Our interpretation of the Age of
Aquarius is modern.
Theories about the Age of Aquarius:
- The Age of Aquarius is a time of New Beginnings.
- The Age of Aquarius is associated with the End Times such as Armageddon or Judgment Day.
- The millennium is a time of transition to the new age of Aquarius.
- The celestial alignments occurring at this time in history are significant:
- The solstitial points now align with the Galactic Equator due to the precession of the
equinoxes and solstices.
- The equinoctial points are at right angles to the Galactic Equator due to the precession
of the equinoxes.
- Some think that the beginning of the Aquarian Age is also the end of the Cenozoic
geologic era.
- The end of the Cenozoic era depends upon widespread geological changes that are not yet
evident.
- The end of the Quaternary period would depend on widespread changes such as mass
extinction.
- The end of the Recent Epoch would be marked by the changes in the development of modern
man.
- The end of the 2nd millennium may mark a transition for humanity from life during the
last 10,000 years.
- Some believe that the earth will erupt with new volcanoes and terrible earthquakes or
that meteors will fall.
Beliefs about the Age of Aquarius: (Most predictions don't come true and are soon
forgotten.)

greater brainpower by accessing the unused portions of our brains.
- More opportunities will be available to everyone to improve themselves either through
higher education or enhanced training. Many people may excel in sports. People will live
longer and lead more creative lives.
- It is a toss up regarding whether the world will become more liberal or more

justice is done.
- The environment and the creatures of the earth are cared for in a manner that conserves
them for the future.

blossom as the new age begins.
- Those devoted to doing God's will on earth will be given revelations about the future of
humanity.
- That everyone will feel a renewed sense of stewardship over the natural environment and
the earth's creatures.
- The theory of sustainable survival will prevail. The people of the world will take
responsibility for the planet.
- A Galactic Federation will make itself known to the peoples of the earth. (Galactic
Counsels, Universal Counsels)
Ceremonies and the Age of Aquarius:
- Ceremonies will occur around the world on the spring equinox of the year 2000 marking
the beginning of the Age of Aquarius. Ceremonies are planned for the spring equinox of the
year 2001 as the new age's first anniversary.
- The sacred wheel, the mandala and the Wheel of Fortune will symbolize the transition to
the Age of Aquarius.
- Meditations, prayers, songs, chants, dance, and all manner of rejoicing will mark the
Ceremonies.
- People will listen to their inner voices to know what is the right way for them to
celebrate the new age.
- Some people will have visions and revelations that will help shape their lives and the
lives of those they love.
- People will become empowered to make new beginnings in their lives. Bad habits will be
broken.
- It will be a time of forgiveness. A time to let bygones be bygones, yet not to forget
but to learn from the past.
Will the Age of Aquarius begin in our time?
- The Age of Aquarius can begin at anytime now. Some say it has begun or that it will
begin sooner or later.
- There is no stone tablet or prophecy that sets the exact date for the beginning of the
Aquarian Age.
What is the difference between the New Age and the Age of Aquarius?
- The "New Age" is actually the Age of Aquarius. The term "new age"
refers to the new Age of Aquarius.
Is the New Age Movement connected with the Age of Aquarius?
- Yes and no. The new age movement's name is based on the Age of Aquarius, but that is
about all. The Age of Aquarius is an astronomical term based on the precession of the
equinox, whereas the new age movement is a variety of individuals and groups with a
multitude of ideas and agendas. Astronomers seem to be somewhat upset that astrologers,
healers and all manner of people have taken over the name "New Age", some
without even knowing about the celestial implications of the great ages. That being said,
it is actually everybody's new age.
- New Age Music sets the tone for Aquarian Age people who like listening to a natural and
harmonious blend of sounds and lyrics. We must also accept that the raucous music of the
x, y and z generations are also characteristic of the Aquarian Age, because of its
association with Uranus. New age music will be invented that is exciting and adventurous
as well as enjoyable. We are still living in a time when one performer can make a unique
style of music that everyone can hear and like, so there are many opportunities for
individuals to be heard. Bands and orchestras will probably be the preferred music of the
Aquarian Age. Groups and associations may dominate the new age. Musicians and vocalists
will get together with like-minded people for the purpose of becoming friends and
establishing long lasting relationships. Creative cooperation should enhance the artist's
satisfaction about a job well done and be of great economic benefit to the artist as well.
What is a Platonic Year?
- The Platonic year was named in honor of the Greek philosopher Plato and is also known as
the Great Year.
- The Platonic Year or Great Year lasts for about 25,800 years depending on the precession
of the equinox.
- The ecliptic is the path of the sun through the zodiac and the equinoctial point
traverses the full circle of 360 degrees along the ecliptic in one full cycle of the
Platonic Year or Great Year or Great Solar Year or even Great Sidereal Year as it is also
called. This motion of the equinoctial point along the ecliptic is measured by its
position in relation to stars and constellations, not to the signs of the zodiac that are
actually based on the position of the equinoctial point. [Modern absolute motion of the
equinoctial point, while called sidereal, is actually measured from the galactic equator.
Sidereal is considered stable compared to solar, which it is. Over a great year, even
sidereal movement is extreme and 360-degree movement of the equinoctial point can only be
measured in relation to the crossing point of the ecliptic and galactic equator, which it
is. - George Flory]
- Each age such as the Age of Aquarius may be likened to a month of the solar year, except
on a grander scale.
How long will it take for the transition between the Age of Pisces and the Age of
Aquarius?
- If we accept the year 2000 AD as the beginning of the Age of Aquarius, the transition
began up to 100 years ago and the transition time may continue for another hundred years
or so. Some say the transition time may take another 600 to 700 years while others say
that the year 2000 AD marks the end of the transition to the new age.
- Various factors influence the time of transition between the great ages:
- There is no known "set date" for the ending of the Age of Pisces.
- There is no known "set date" for the beginning of the Age of Aquarius.
- There is no known marker that divides the great ages, although there is a growing
consensus that the galactic equator might be useful in determining the division lines
between the great ages with the ecliptic and celestial equator. Modern star maps measure
"celestial longitude" as degrees along the celestial equator.
- The transition time between ages is gradual yet there may be events that indicate the
start of a new age.
- Planetary conjunctions or other aspects have been said to signify the start of the great
ages, but we must remember that astrological indications must be based on the equinoctial
point. Most aren't.
- The Rosicrucians believe that there is an "Orb of Influence" of the great
ages, so an age's influences can be felt before the age has actually begun and that
influence will be felt after that age has ended.
What is the difference between the sign of Aries and the constellation Aries?
- The sign of Aries actually changes year to year. The first point of the sign of Aries is
the equinoctial point for that given year. The sign of Aries is divided into 30 degrees.
- The constellation Aries is a group of stars that has an irregular shape and size in
regard to the other constellations.
- The convention of western astrology is that the astrological signs are based on the
seasons and not constellations.
What does the precession of the equinoxes and solstices have to do with the seasons?
- The equinoctial points and the seasons are related because they are both based on the
wobble of the earth
- The Spring Equinox occurs when the sun crosses the celestial equator
- Day and night are of equal length.
- The Summer Solstice occurs when the sun is at its maximum travel north.
- The Autumn Equinox occurs when the sun crosses the celestial equator
- The Winter Solstice occurs when the sun is at its maximum travel south.
What does the North Star Polaris have to do with the Age of Aquarius?
- The North Star is determined by the Earth's wobble, which also causes the precession of
the equinoxes.
- Polaris is now the North Star because the northern axis of the earth now points to it.
- Polaris will be closest to the northern axis at about 2095 AD, so this is also the Age
of Polaris and Ursa Minor.
- For the past few thousand years the stars of Ursa Minor have been closest to the
northern axis of the earth.
- In a couple thousand years from now there will be no bright star that can claim the
honor of being the Pole Star.
- 3000 years ago the pole star was 17 degrees further south than it is now, making more
southern constellations visible to Europeans. That is why southern constellations have
Greek and Latin names.
- Polaris will again be the north star at around 27900 AD, but it won't be as true north
as it is now because of the precessional translation of the celestial pole among the
northern constellations.
- The circle, which is the mean trajectory of the northern pole, is actually somewhat like
a spiral because the wobble of the earth is irregular and gravitational forces change the
wobble through the years and ages.
- What is the precession of the equinox?
- The precession of the equinox is the motion of the equinoctial point along the ecliptic.
- The equinoctial point is marked as the sun's position in the sky when it crosses the
celestial equator.
- The sun crosses the celestial equator because the earth's axis is inclined at 23.5
degrees in relation to the plane of the ecliptic. The inclination of the earth's axis
causes the changes in seasons during the year.
- The equinoctial point appears to precess or recede backwards (westward) through the
zodiac in contrast to the apparent motion of the sun, moon and planets.
- The spring equinoctial point moves a short distance back through the zodiac each year.
Thus if the equinoctial point were at exactly 25 degrees of a certain zodiacal
constellation one year, it would be a little less than 25 degrees the next year due to the
precession of the equinox.
- What is the Precession of the Pole?
What does the Great Pyramid have to do with the precession of the equinox?
- "The most precise alignment of the Dragon Star and the Great Pyramid occurred on
the Vernal Equinox of the year 2141 BC" - From "The Great Pyramid Decoded"
by E. Raymond Capt.
- Alpha Draconis is called Thuban the "Dragon Star". The constellation Draco
circles around the northern sky.
- The Egyptians may have used polar stars to measure the great ages as they knew them. If
the Pyramid of Giza were built today, it might be constructed so that the star Polaris
would now appear to shine down the Descending Passage. The Descending Passage is said to
have been in alignment with the North Pole axis of the earth when the Great Pyramid was
built, and so it points to the pole star of that time, Alpha Draconis.
- The star Alpha Draconis is not exactly on the circle, which is the mean trajectory of
the pole revolution. It is a few degrees of arc away from that great circle, so Alpha
Draconis would not have been at the exact north position.
- The determination of when Alpha Draconis was at its most precise alignment is therefore
a matter of conjecture.
- Alpha Draconis would have been the pole star for hundreds of years
- It looks to me as if Alpha Draconis was closest to being pole star at about 2,700 BC, a
500 year difference.
Will the AA begin on January 1, 2000 AD or the Spring Equinox of the year 2000 AD?
- The great ages are based on the precession of the equinox, so any great age must begin
on the spring equinox.
- The Gregorian Calendar used by western civilization today has little correspondence to
the solstices and equinoxes. Earlier calendars did have a close connection to the
equinoxes and solstices, but because of tampering with those calendars and adjustments
made over the centuries, our calendar today doesn't correspond to the seasons as it was
originally intended to do. We hope that future calendars will take the seasons into
account.
What does Stonehenge and the 18.6 year Metonic cycle have to do with the
precession of the equinox?
- The Metonic cycle is another name for the nutation cycle, which is the 18.6-year eclipse
cycle which predicts where in the zodiac an eclipse is likely to occur and when.
- The nutation cycle is the eclipse cycle of the sun and moon, which because of their
stellar alignment have a gravitational effect on the bulge of the earth, therefore
affecting the wobble and the precession of the equinox.
- Observation of the nutation cycle at Stonehenge and other sites may have been done in
conjunction with the observances of the equinoctial and solstitial points, but more
research needs to be done into the subject of the alignments of ancient monuments.
- The nutation cycle also affects where the exact location of the equinoctial point will
be each year, so the actual amount of movement of the equinoctial point varies year by
year.
How is the average yearly motion of the equinoctial point determined?
When determining the average motion of the equinoctial point, astronomers have to take
an average of the motion of the equinoctial point over several years. To take into account
the fluctuations in the motion of the equinoctial point involves many calculations, but
because the equinoctial point moves so slowly it can be measured yearly. (The yearly
motion is about 0.0139 degrees. = 360 degrees/26,5800) (It takes about 72 years to travel
about 1 degree.) These fluctuations are partly to blame for the lack of specific data
pertaining to the position of the equinoctial point in history or in the future. Some day
a supercomputer will crank out all of the positions of the equinoctial point in history
and in the future using data regarding the motion of the sun, moon and planets. It
probably won't be totally accurate because it can't take into account other stellar bodies
such as giant asteroids with unpredicted orbits that may pass near the earth and
contribute to the wobble or even perturb the earth's orbit.
The exact motion of the equinoctial point can't be determined by the star field behind
the equinoctial point, because that point is not visible as it is blocked by the sun on
the vernal equinox. Instead, precise calculations are made to locate the exact vernal
equinoctial point for any particular year and that point is used for stellar observations.
What is Right Ascension and what does it have to do with the precession of the
equinox?
- 1st: Right Ascension is not an Aquarian Age religious concept dealing with revelry,
rapture and the last judgment.
- The hours of right ascension begin at the equinoctial point for the year in question.
Celestial navigation tables are based on the hours of right ascension.
- The Zero Hour line of Right Ascension is based on the equinoctial point. Twenty-four
hours of right ascension are equal to 360 degrees around the celestial equator.
When did the Age of Pisces begin and what are the influences of the Age of Pisces?
- The Age of Pisces is believed to have begun around the birth of Jesus even hundreds of
years before that. George Flory says that the preponderance of evidence points to the
second century BCE. (From 100 BCE to 200 BCE)
- The Age of Pisces is said to be dominated by religion and superstitions.
- Belief, blind faith and reverence for the holy were required of the people of the
Piscean Age
- Altruism, benevolence and philanthropy were some of the good characteristics of the Age
of Pisces.
- Some see the two fish in the constellation Pisces as a symbol of dualism that manifested
in the Age of Pisces as the conflict between church and state or between spirituality and
materiality.
- Religious principles were dominant in the Age of Pisces. Many religions have been born
in the last two milleniums.
- The Age of Pisces had many seekers who sought their personal self-realization through
meditation, prayer and ritual. Some believe that the end of the Age of Pisces will bring
about a time of great revelations.
- Some believe that the Age of Pisces was a time for humanity to gather our energy
together to go into the future.
- The constellation Pisces is usually pictured as two fish connected by a rope,
symbolizing many things. Some believe the picture of Pisces represents man's connection to
his collective subconscious nature as symbolized by the fish that live in the sea
(subconsciousness). Others see the two fish as a symbol of human dichotomy, with one side
being devoted to logic while another side of us is purely instinctual or emotional. What
does the rope represent? It may take some thought to tie the many concepts together.
What are the influences of the Age of Aquarius?
- The Age of Aquarius has also been called the "Information Age" by some, due to
computers and advances in communications technology such as radio, television, the
internet, portable telephones, televisions and satellites.
- The Age of Aquarius has been called the "Age of Innovation" because of the
marvelous advances ushered in with the new technologies and scientific breakthroughs.
Invention will motivate the future of humanity from now on.
- Change is a keyword for the Age of Aquarius. As soon as you have it figured out, it will
change in some unexpected manner. Things will not be as they are or were and we may not
have any idea what will happen soon.
- The Age of Aquarius has also been called the "Space Age" because of the
advances in technology that allow us to visit the moon and other planets and to position
telescopes and space stations above the earth. Although the "Space Age" began
years ago, it may have been a precursor to the advances that we will make in our space
race over the next two thousand years or so. It may take us a couple of milleniums to
explore our solar system, but if significant scientific discoveries and advances are made,
who knows how far we can go with our technology?
- The Age of Aquarius has also been called the "Scientific Age" because it will
be an age of scientific advancement and intellectual achievements.
- The Age of Aquarius has predicted to be a time of "Universal Brotherhood" and
Friendship.
- Some believe that the Age of Aquarius will be another "Age of Reason", but we
already had an age named that.
- It could be the Age of Associations, where every niche interest is represented by a
particular association of people who work together to promote their particular interest.
In that case, it could also be an age of meetings and conferences. People may want to
congregate and simply enjoy the presence of others who share the same interests.
- It could be an Age of Understanding or an Age of Wisdom or Age of Knowledge. Information
will be so easily available that almost anyone will be able to find out anything about
anything in almost no time at all. One of the main challenges of the Age of Aquarius will
be to decide what information is pertinent. With so many channels on the television to
choose from, so many web sites and so many individuals promoting their own creativity, the
world will become cluttered with an overload of information that no one could ever attempt
to absorb. Just watching the new movies of any particular year will probably become a full
time occupation for some moviegoers.
- The Age of Aquarius may indeed become the Age of Happiness, or at least the Age of
Entertainment, because with so many ways to spend our leisure time, we will have some
tough choices on how to enjoy our lives.
- Aquarius is sometimes seen pouring water from two jugs, causing the water to mix in a
kind of synthesis. This implies that the religious principles formed in the Age of Pisces
could be synthesized in the Age of Aquarius. We must acknowledge that technology has only
recently become prominent, and before that people lived more instinctual lives or lives
that were governed by their emotions or religious devotions.
Who should we accept as an authority regarding the beginning of the Age of Aquarius?
- In the absence of any tablet defining the actual beginning of the Age of Aquarius there
are several options:
- Review the literature and find a point between the extremes and use that as the best
midpoint or average date on which to start the Aquarian Age.
- Accept one authority or another and base your observance of the Aquarian Age upon the
date given by him.
- Examine the evidence and come to an educated opinion about the beginning date of the Age
of Aquarius.
- Try to form a consensus regarding the beginning date. This is almost impossible if all
historical sources are taken into account because they have already established their
projected dates and cannot be revised at this date. The other solution is to form a
congress to agree upon the best date to begin the Aquarian Age using the best available
data. This is the approach that we endorse because it allows people in these times to have
some say about the start date for the Aquarian Age. The spring equinox date is especially
attractive because it would allow synchronization of the Gregorian Calendar used by most
of the modern world with the Aquarian Age. Having 2000 AD as the zero year of the Aquarian
Age would save a lot of trouble in notation in the centuries and millenniums to follow.
Taking these steps now could save much confusion and arguments in the future. (Note: The
Aquarius Age congress did occur on the spring equinox of 2000 and those attending agreed
to begin the Age of Aquarius at that meeting on the spring equinox 2000.)
- The last alternative is to simply let the Age of Aquarius happen when enough people
decide that it is time. The problem with this approach is that if we ignore this
opportunity to start the Age of Aquarius at this time, then it may lose significance in
the years ahead. Digital computations may be adopted instead as a more accurate method of
determining great spans of time and the ancient methods may lose their quaint attraction
to those of us who respect the achievements of the ancient astronomers and would like to
carry on those traditions.
How many constellations of the zodiac appear on modern star maps?
- Modern star maps feature 13 constellations that cross the ecliptic. Those maps were
designed by Eugene Delaporte for the International Astronomy Union (IAU) and published in
1931.
- Since modern star maps have 13 constellations on the ecliptic, then the theory that
there are 12 Great Ages is not possible using modern star maps. The Great Ages were
observed thousands of years before the publication of our modern star maps, so using
modern star maps to determine the timing of the Great Ages is an impossible proposition.
If the ancients believed that there were 12 Great Ages, then how can we say that there are
now 13 Great Ages because we decided to redraw the star maps? If we are going to honor the
astronomical achievements of the ancients, then we need to use their tools and methods of
celestial measurement. The ancients can't play by our rules, we must play by their rules
if we wish to play their game. The Great Ages were their game.
- Modern star maps can not be used to determine the Great Ages. Ancient star maps define
these Ancient Ages. How far back do we have to go for what map to use to determine the
Great Ages? That is a good question. Do we use the star maps of Babylon, Egypt or Greece?
Look at the star maps of the ancients for information about their observance of the
precession of the equinox. The division of the zodiac into 12 segments was established
about 500 BC or earlier if we take into account the Chinese zodiac. [The Sumarians had
twelve equal divisions of the zodiac with very similar names to the modern Latin names.
They have recorded historical events as far back as the Age of Leo and possibly further
using the zodiacal calendar.-George Flory]
Does adding Ophiuchus to the zodiac have any bearing regarding the beginning of the Age
of Aquarius?
- No. Many star maps were created over the millenniums, but only one is in common use
today. Using this modern star map for technical purposes is fine, but can modern star maps
be used to calculate the timing of ancient epochs? Having Ophiuchus on a modern star map's
zodiac isn't an issue. At some time in the future the equinoctial point will pass through
the constellation Ophiuchus.
- In an article in THE TIMES OF LONDON, on January 21, 1995, Jacqueline Mitton, press
officer of the Royal Astronomical Society (RAS), stated that since the constellation
Ophiuchus was one of the constellations of the zodiac on modern star maps and therefore
astrology was nonsense. "...the signs of the zodiac used by astrologers don't even
correspond with reality."
- Doris Chase Doane, then president of the American Federation of Astrologers, Inc,
rejected the RAS findings. "I don't believe it," she said. "There are 12
signs in the zodiac. Ophiuchus might have to do with the constellations, but it has
nothing to do with the zodiac. There's an entirely different viewpoint between the
astronomical and the astrological." (Note: She probably meant that Ophiuchus has
nothing to do with the traditional 12 signs of the zodiac. Ophiuchus does actually cross
the ecliptic and the sun travels through those stars from about November 30 to December
17. Remember that on ancient star maps many times stars were shared between
constellations.
- Are astronomers going to get together and redraw the star maps sometime in the future?
If so, when and why?
Is there going to be a change in religions, philosophies and values in the Age of
Aquarius?
- Teamwork may become the keyword for the new age. Social organizations and institutions
may gain more power in the coming years. Mass movements may reach across national
boundaries.
- Sudden and radical changes may shape the lives of millions. Looking at others as friends
instead of strangers may become more prevalent as barriers are broken down.
- We may become a more spiritual community. A culture of higher consciousness may arise.
The sharing of information may bring knowledge to the masses and hopefully allow more
people in the world opportunities to be the best they can be. By allowing more people to
share in the rewards, the world's population should become more productive and happy.
- Economic cooperation between countries is already having consequences that are both good
and bad, but in the long run increased trade should raise the standard of living for most
of the world's peoples.
- Expect the unexpected in the Age of Aquarius. Brush off old beliefs and break the
customary habit for things will start all over again. You can make new vows, renew old
friendships and make pledges for a better future.
When was the Age of Pisces?
- The Age of Pisces is believed to have begun over two thousand years ago at 160 BC and
will end on the spring equinox of the year 2000 AD. Others believe that the Age of Pisces
began with the birth of Christ, but there isn't agreement on what year Christ was actually
born in. Jesus is associated with the Fish and Pisces. He became a fisher of men, having
made disciples out of fishermen.
When was the Age of Aries?
- The Age of Aries is believed to have begun over four thousand years ago at 2320 BC and
ended on the spring equinox of the year 160 BC. (Abraham substituted a ram instead of his
son Isaac. Moses came down from Mount Sinai to find worshiping of a golden calf. Ram
worship also occurred in Egypt. Long row of stone rams.)
When was the Age of Taurus?
- The Age of Taurus is believed to have begun over six thousand years ago at 4480 BC and
ended on the spring equinox of the year 2320 BC. (Many religions worshiped the Bull.
(Ba'al) Egyptians in power in Age of Taurus. The Minotaur in the Labyrinth of Crete. The
cult of Mithras and bull dancers.
What does the Mayan Calendar have to do with the Age of Aquarius?
- The Mayan Calendar isn't based on the Western Zodiac, so comparing the Mayan Calendar to
the Aquarian Age is like comparing apples to oranges. Each system has its own relevance
and timing. The end date for the Mayan Calendar in 2012 isn't the beginning date of the
Aquarian Age. [However, the end date for the Mayan age is based on the alignment of the
winter solstice with the galactic equator. This event actually occurred at the winter
solstice of 1999, one season before the spring equinox occurred 90° from the galactic
equator, a related event. This means that 5000 years ago the Mayans (actually the Toltecs
then) miscalculated the alignment of the galactic equator with the winter solstice by 10
to 20 years. In the third millenium, we can clearly discern that the 1950 IAU definition
of the galactic equator missed by about five years in terms of precession of the
equinox.-George Flory]
What does the "New Age" have to do with the "New World Order?"
- Can't tell you. Don't want to know.
Are there going to be floods and great earthquakes with the continents tearing apart
when the new age starts?
- Hope not. Some have predicted dire events for the year 2000 and 2012, but we will have
to see what happens.
What's the difference between New Agers and Old Agers?
- Not much. The age gap is closing as the new age baby boomers get older by the year
What do Near Death Experiences have to do with the New Age?
If the symbol of the Age of Pisces was a Fish, is the water jug the symbol of Aquarius?
- The water jug is commonly seen as the symbol of Aquarius. Ron Lampi has suggested the
fountain as the symbol.
- Jesus instructed his disciples to follow a man carrying a jug of water when they went to
prepare for the feast of Passover.
What's the economic impact of the Age of Aquarius?
Is this New Age movement small change or big money?
- Big Money. There are a multitude of new age books, magazines, crystals and gift items.
The new age is a fad that isn't going away and it keeps becoming a bigger business every
day. All forms of alternative healing seemed to be grouped in the new age section as well
as mystical, astrological, tarot, crystal and yoga. It seems that the term "New
Age" is a catchall for everything that doesn't stand up on its own as a major
category. Boutiques and small bookshops cater to an eclectic crowd that has plenty of
money for nice looking trinkets and toys. Many professionals and activist groups have
joined with the new age crowd in order to promote our mutual interests, such a
environmental concerns. It keeps getting retro as people return to the hippie era clothing
or mod styles or fashions that are entirely new.
What's the educational focus of the new Age of Aquarius?
- Electronics will probably play an increased role in the education of everyone from
children to older adults.
- Computer Aided Learning (CAL) will be available to anyone who has a computer to log on.
- Virtual reality will also be effective for preparing people for their challenges in the
real world
- By rehearsing in a virtual reality studio, a team can be fully prepared to do a complex
and dangerous task.
Why is the Age of Aquarius supposed to bring peace and harmony?
- That's because of the song "Aquarius" from the musical "Hair" goes
something like that.
What do ceremonies celebrating the start of the Age of Aquarius have to do with spring
equinox ceremonies?
- Both the spring equinox of the year 2000 and the Age of Aquarius will occur at the same
moment.
- Ceremonies commentating the beginning of spring can include reference to the start of
the Age of Aquarius
- The ceremonies celebrating the start of the Age of Aquarius may reflect the fact that it
begins on the equinox.
- There is a connection between the spring equinox of a new year and the beginning of a
new age.
What age is the opposite of the Age of Aquarius?
- The Age of Leo is opposite the Age of Aquarius. Leo is in opposition to Aquarius.
What do Ezekiel's four heads of the beast of the Book of Revelations have to do with
the Age of Aquarius?
- The four heads of the beast from Revelations may represent Taurus, Leo, Aquarius and
Scorpio as the Eagle.
- The figure of the man may represent the man pictured in the constellation Aquarius the
Water Carrier.
Is the Age of Aquarius the Age of Atonement?
- Some people believe that we all will be connected with God at the instant of the
beginning of the new age.
Why is the start of the Age of Aquarius important?
- The start date for anything is important for a variety of reasons:
- The starting date is the birth date of the Age of Aquarius. It is at that date moment
that the new age begins.
- Astrologers base their horoscopes on the moment of birth of a person or for momentous
events such as this.
- Anniversaries of the Age of Aquarius will be counted from the date of the beginning of
the new age.
- [The proposed ancient and modern definition of the beginning of zodiacal ages is a
natural intuitive astronomical event which advanced technological societies can pinpoint
with exact precision for all time. - George Flory]
Who will the Age of Aquarius affect?
- The new Age of Aquarius will affect everyone is different manners and at different
times. At first it will primarily concern those who are doing meditations, prayers,
ceremonies and rituals during the spring equinox because they will be especially focused
on the timing of their duties. Those seeing the ceremonies and hearing about the Aquarian
Age are likely to take some interest in it and knowing about the new age is a step toward
accepting it.
- Some people think that all of creation will be transformed when the new age dawns and
that we will all somehow be new, like a new species a new life on the earth. Humans may
find a connection to the cosmos through the "starstuff" within us. The awakening
to the new age may bring enlightened consciousness to many of us.
Why don't astronomers make some definitive statements about the Age of Aquarius?
- Probably because the term "Age of Aquarius" has been taken over by the
so-called "New Age Movement" and astronomers don't want to get connected to
that. Consequently most astronomers haven't said much about the Age of Aquarius.
Is it the responsibility of modern astronomers or historians to determine the divisions
of the great ages?
- It will take the technical and scientific data of the modern astronomers to determine
the timing of great celestial events, but it will take the wisdom of the historians to
decipher the ancient star maps and read the astroglyphs.
What are the preconditions for the Age of the Aquarius?
- "Consciousness and behavior which recognizes the majestic truth of human equality -
the essential equality of all individuals before heaven - is a precondition and starting
point for the Age of Aquarius, for the advancement of the species. All stars or
none." - Steve Durst
What does Steve Durst think will happen in the next millennium of the Age of Aquarius?
- "The most certain thing that can be said about the next 1,000 years, when less than
half the Aquarius Age will have passed, is that humans will travel among the stars. It
soon will be 40 years since JF Kennedy inspired new generations "to go to the moon
and explore the stars", and the great transcendence is just beginning."
- "It is on Luna, as much as on vulnerable and limited space stations or relatively
distant Mars, that humans free and equal will work out and evolve the extraterrestrial
future of the species - will begin the world over again"
- "Our common, immediate individual futures, our greatest opportunities for expanding
liberty and happiness in the coming age will most abound in this new domain, this new
ocean called 'space' and in its countless new worlds."
- "Now, as the spring equinox date approaches the boundary of the constellation of
Aquarius, a human figure, the new Age dawning is characterized by preoccupation with human
rights and technological revolutions."
What ancient cultures are associated with the Great Ages?
- "For the ancient Mesopotamians and Egyptians, the spring-beginning year - beginning
equinox occurred when the sun was in Taurus, and Taurus was regarded as the 'first' of the
constellations. For the Greeks and Romans, the spring equinox occurred when the Sun
entered Aries." - Steve Durst
- "More than four thousand years ago in the 'Age of Taurus', Egyptians and Hindus
singled out the bull, or cow, as sacred. In the two thousand years that followed, the
Hebrews (perhaps the most progressive culture in the Age of Aries) shunned the 'golden
calf' and heralded the new year with the sacrifice of the ram. The predominance of the
fish in early Christian rituals and symbolism reflected the awareness of the precessional
change into the Age of Pisces." - Steve Durst
What happens when an astronomer and a geologist got into an argument regarding the
great epochs and ages?
- The conflict of the ages lasted for hours until each scientist agreed to let the other
measure time how they wished.
What does it mean to have the "Jubilee 2000" occur at the start of the Age of
Aquarius?
- Jubilee 2000, the "Holy Year", and the starting date of the Age of Aquarius
occur in the year 2000. The Jubilee 2000 is a spiritual year of renewal recognized by
Roman Catholics and the Episcopal Church. Social action groups are also calling for a time
of forgiveness of debts owed by poor nations. The notion that every 50th year is a Jubilee
year is a Hebrew Biblical mandate from the Book of Leviticus that states that during these
years that fields be left fallow, that slaves be freed and debts be forgiven. This Jubilee
2000 is a time of new beginnings and fresh starts. It is a time of great possibilities and
opportunities when we can break bad habits and do something new. It is a time of change
and transformation. It is a time when liberty is proclaimed throughout the land. It is a
time of great celebration.
- The Jubilee 2000 is actually an extension of the Sabbath
- Why is the name "Aquarians" applied to people who weren't born in the sign of
Aquarius?
- The name "Aquarians" has been used as a name for those people who work to
bring about the Aquarian Age. Calling those people "Aquariuses" or something
like that might work. Probably the Latin form: Aquarii would be more appropriate. However
it is spelled or pronounced may change over time consider the spelling of Aquarians in
different languages. [Latin has actually been constant since the time ancient Rome to the
present; however there have been many temporal and local variations. Recent trends are
toward abandoning regional peculiarities and returning to the phonetic classical
pronouncial, essentially identical to Caesar and Cicero pronunciation. - George Flory]. It
is common to call these Aquarians "New Agers" too.
- Aquarians strive to improve themselves and develop their talents. Aquarians help others
develop their talents.
- Aquarians network with friends and associates. When friends work as a team then things
go according to plan.
- Aquarians care for humanity and the earth. Aquarians care for the animals and the
environments and the oceans.
- Aquarians are tolerant of the rights of others, including religious rights.
- Isaac Bonewits in his "The
Aquarian Manifesto with Historical Notes 1.1" lists "Aquarians" as a
group of people that includes neopagans, neochristians, agnostics, witches, wizards,
pagans, psychics, priests, parapsychologists, mystics, mediums, magicians, astrologers,
diviners and occultists. Isaac says "Aquarians" have talents that are psychic,
magical, spiritual, paranormal or something more.
Didn't Samael Aun Weor say that the Age of Aquarius began with that big conjunction on
February 4, 1962?
- Samael Aun
Weor, the founder of the Gnostic movement, believed that the Aquarian Age began on
February 4, 1962 because the sun and moon were in the sign of Aquarius with the planets
Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn. This famous conjunction of the inner planets
from our vantagepoint on earth was observed worldwide.
- Great ages changed when there is a major conjunction in the sign of the next age to
begin.
- This date for the Aquarian Age doesn't take into account several details:
- Planetary conjunctions aren't the deciding factors in determining great ages, which are
based on the precession of the equinox.
- Planets may contribute to the influences of a great age, and are used to analyze
historical aspects.
- The Aquarian Age must begin on the spring equinox because it is based upon the spring
equinox.
- Also remember that the Age of Aquarius is based upon the actual sign of Aquarius. The
conjunction in question occurred in the sign of Aquarius, which is a different place in
the sky than the constellation Aquarius.
Astronomical Cycles:
The earth revolves on its axis every twenty-four hours. This 24-hour
period is also divided into daylight and nighttime hours where applicable. (Not at the
Polar Regions at certain times of the year.) Each hour of the day had significance to the
ancients. Sometimes the hour of the day had a planetary ruler or mythical ruler. The
division of the day into 24 hours may have developed in Egypt. (Van Helden)
Year Cycle: The earth revolves around the sun in approximately 365.25 days. This
year cycle is divided into 12 monthly periods that are based upon the time the sun spends
in one of the constellations on the path of stars called the zodiac.
Seasonal Cycle: The Earth's axis and poles are tilted at 23 degrees to the plane of
the ecliptic causing the seasons because at certain times of the year the Earth is
oriented differently to the sun. The seasons of the Northern Hemisphere are opposite to
the seasons of the Southern Hemisphere, except that the equinoxes occur at the same time
of year.
- Winter Solstice:
In the Northern Hemisphere the pole is tilted away from the Sun so
the days are shorter.
- In the Southern Hemisphere (Summer Solstice) the pole is tilted toward the Sun so the
days are longer.
- Spring Equinox:
Equal day and night.
- In the Southern Hemisphere (Autumn Equinox) Equal day and night.
- Summer Solstice:
In the Northern Hemisphere the pole is tilted toward the Sun so the
days are longer.
- In the Southern Hemisphere (Winter Solstice) the pole is tilted away from the Sun so the
days are shorter.
- Autumn Equinox:
Equal day and night.
- In the Southern Hemisphere (Spring Equinox) Equal day and night.
Lunar Cycle: The moon revolves around the earth about every 29 and a half days and
its motion gives rise to a thirteen month lunar year. This lunar cycle has an influence
over the great year because the moon affects the wobble of the earth that determines the
timing of the great year.
- Does the monthly lunar cycle correspond with the 4 seven day weeks, which equal 28 days?
Did the four weeks of the month may corresponded to the four phases of the moon. The
Mesopotamians developed a calendar that adeptly accounted for the motions of the sun and
the moon.
- The Metonic cycle:
Based on the Greek scholar Menton (ca. 425 BCE), is a solar lunar
calendar used at:
- Stonehenge:
Holes determined locations of eclipse cycle by observing the Metonic
cycle.
- Precessional Cycle:
The axis of the earth slowly wobbles as the earth spins,
something like the wobble of a spinning top. The time for a complete precessional wobble
is about 25,920 years, which is called the Great Year or Platonic Year or Great Solar Year
among other names. This means that the top axis of the earth points to the star Polaris at
this time, but will point to Vega in about 14,000 years. The Great Year is divided into 12
months which are called Great Ages. These Ages are based on the signs of the zodiac that
the Equinoctial Point is in at the time. It takes about 2,160 years for the equinoctial
point to go through one of the twelve segments of the zodiac. We believe that the
Equinoctial Point will enter the segment allotted to Aquarius on the Spring Equinox of the
year 2000 AD.
- Planetary Cycles:
Each of the planets of the solar system also has observable
orbital and rotation rates.
- Stellar Cycles:
Astronomers have observed cycles in stellar phenomena such as
pulsars and variable stars.
- Hourly Cycles:
The hour was divided into 60 minutes of 60 seconds each by the
Mesopotamians using their sexagesimal system of counting The progression of minutes and
seconds repeats the end of each hour. = Cycle.
- Weekly Cycles:
The weekly cycle may be based on the four phases of the moon.
How does the Age of Aquarius relate to the prehistoric peoples such as Cro-Magnons
and Neanderthals?
- It is believed that the Neanderthals coexisted with modern humans for 5 to 10 thousand
years, but disappeared after coming into contact with the Cro-Magnons who migrated into
Europe about 40,000 years ago. Neanderthals survived up to 200,000 years before either
being eliminated or absorbed by the Cro-Magnons. We can expect that 26,000 years ago the
Neanderthals were expanding out into Europe between ice ages
What does the Zero Point have to do with the Age of Aquarius?
- There are several zero points in vogue today. The one that astronomers are concerned
with is called the equinoctial point, which is also called the beginning of the sign Aries
and is at Zero hours of Right Ascension and is at the zero degree mark of ecliptic
longitude. This zero point is the location of the sun at the spring equinox. This zero
point has special significance on the beginning date of the Aquarian Age because it is the
point that will be used for hundreds if not thousands of years as the reference point for
making star charts and celestial atlases.
What was happening around the world when the Age of Aries began about 2320 BCE?
- British Isles: The foundations of Stonhenge may have been built around then.
- Peru: Torreon at Machu Pichu, Coricancha at Cusco. Mexico: Caracol at Chichen-itza
When does Zeharia Sitchin believe is the beginning of the cycle of great ages?
- From: 'When Time Began The Zodiac and the Birth of Astrology' by Zecharia Sitchin:
"It all began, as I have shown, with the invention of the zodiac and the first Age,
that of Enki's Aquarius. Significantly, it is back to that Age (back because Precession
shifts time backward, not forward) that we are now about to arrive. Is it, then, a time
when Earthly Time, Celestial Time and Divine Time shall again coincide? Let's leave the
possibility with a question mark."
Why are there so many dates given for the beginning of the Age of Aquarius?
- The different dates for the beginning of the Age of Aquarius stem from the various
systems of measurement used in the ancient world as compared to these modern times and
star maps. Ancient astronomers from different locations around the world used different
tools and measured stellar positions differently. Local observations were tailored to the
use of the local astronomer/astrologer, so the information had different uses. What
constitutes a valid measurement is another factor. What is useful to one culture could be
meaningless to another. Also, ancient observers with primitive equipment could only do the
best with what they had, so we can't expect rocket science from prehistoric peoples. We
know how difficult it is to set standards of measurement in the modern world, considering
the switch to the metric system of measurement. Just imagine how difficult it would be to
compare your observations with others of the same period if you didn't use tools that were
precisely calibrated when they were made and then recalibrated year after year. How about
observers in different countries or even different continents and different cultures?
Considering that, it is amazing that the ancient zodiacs have so much in common!
Will the Age of Aquarius bring about a Golden Age and Utopia?
- Some believe that the Age of Aquarius will be a Golden Age for humanity and that life
many will live in Utopia.
- Since the Age of Aquarius will last over two thousand years, it is difficult to predict
what will happen in the centuries to come. It is expected that we will be going through a
period of constant change and radical transformation. What is new now will be old tomorrow
and so on into the years and centuries to come. If we keep progressing in technology and
business at the rate we are, it may only be centuries before we achieve a plateau of our
social and cultural development.
- As more people are empowered by education, nutrition and material resources we will see
a leveling of the playing field in regard to the haves and the have nots. Presently there
are many social and cultural barriers to people seeking opportunities, but in time people
of any race, religion, sex and language will be able to enjoy the opportunities now only
available to those in the industrialized countries. In time people will be able to earn
more than they need to sustain themselves and then have time to pursue the arts, sports
and educational activities that allow them to appreciate the marvels and splendors in the
world and of the imagination. For too long humanity has struggled to survive. We hope that
the Age of Aquarius will bring about an era of opportunity for all humanity.
Are there any other signs other than the astronomical ones that say we are entering a
new age?
- Some people think that the technological advances we see today are proof enough that we
have entered a new age.
