The decipherment of the MINOR ARCANA

The Minor Arcana of the Tarot contains sixteen court cards and forty suit cards, giving a total of fifty-six Minor Arcana cards. The number fifty-six has some interesting correspondences to ancient astronomy and astrology. There are twenty-eight days in the lunar month, and two times twenty-eight equals fifty-six. Therefore, the Minor Arcana cards could be used to count days in the lunar cycle.

There are fifty-six "Aubrey Holes" at Stonehenge in England which were used to predict the eclipse seasons. These holes were discovered by Mr. Aubrey in the seventeenth century.

There are fifty-two weeks in a solar year, and there are two equinoxes and two solstices which total fifty-six.
